English: Browney Cross. The socket stone of the cross is in the foreground. "The stone measures 3 feet 11 inches (1.19 metres) by 3 feet 9 inches (1.14 metres) and at least 10 inches (0.25 metres) deep. The size of the socket is 15½ inches (0.39 metres) by 13 inches (0.33 metres) and 9 inches (0.23 metres) deep ... Unfortunately, the whereabouts of the actual cross has never come to light" http://www.dartmoor-crosses.org.uk/browney_cross_socket.htm - but see the same site's comments on the nearby Truelove Cross http://www.dartmoor-crosses.org.uk/truelove.htm . In the background is the signpost shown in 251385, with the road to Plympton. |
