Summary[edit]

Description
English: Brompton Ponds. The ponds are redundant millponds and are one of two areas in the village where a substantial amount of water comes to the surface as springs.

In this area many of the springs rise at the bottom of the ponds, but others rise to the right of All Saints' Church in the grounds of Brompton Hall School. This photograph was taken from the dam containing the lower pond and close by the weir over which water flows into 428585 (behind the viewpoint).

The ponds are home to a large number of fish, hence the fencing, which is there to help maintain the private fishing rights. Also on the ponds are a number of species of wildfowl including a 428710 who, when this photograph was taken, had set up home next to the sluice and the weir to Brompton Beck.

In the field to the left (on the other side of the fence) there is a public footpath that connects Low Hall Farm (behind and left of the viewpoint) with 426845 ahead and near to All Saints Church 426872.

For a closer view of the church (ahead) click here 426956. See this 1973 photograph taken from the upper dam wall ahead, 1715830.

See also this photograph of the ponds taken from the lane in front of the church, 43376.
