Summary[edit]

Description
English: Broad-leaved Everlasting-pea. This plant was found on the road to Trusham 879089

The broad-leaved everlasting pea is a winged-stemmed tendril climber with broad, blunt oval leaves showing obvious veins. It has large and vivid magenta flowers which are up to three centimetres across. These are followed by long, up to 11cm, brown pods. This is a useful plant to have scrambling over a trellis or weaving its way through a mixed hedge in full sun.

The foliage offers food for a number of different caterpillars and beetles. Bumble bees seek out the flowers, as does the day-flying silver Y moth (and perhaps also other moth species). This species is a garden escape, first recorded in the wild about 100 years ago and now occurs widely on road and railway banks, sea-cliffs and waste ground.
