Summary[edit]

Description
Model chariot made of gold from the Oxus Treasure in the British Museum. Tag on exhibit reads: "Gold Model chariot drawn by a four-horse team. The Egyptian god Bes is depicted on the front of this chariot. Bes was the protective deity of the young, and this would be appropriate if this model chariot was made for a boy. Chariots with the same profile and the wheel construction are shown on sculptures at Persepolis and the so-called Darius seal in this gallery. 5th-4th century BC. Oxus Treasure: 123908. Bequeathed by A. W. Franks." See BM database entry for more details.
