Description
Português: O British Burial Ground foi inaugurado em 1809, nas terras doadas por d. João VI ao ministro inglês, lord Stranford, para que ali se instalasse um cemitério a fim de atender à crescente comunidade protestante inglesa do Rio de Janeiro. O cemitério dispunha originalmente de um cais de desembarque para o sepultamento dos ingleses que faleciam a bordo durante a travessia do oceano. O ambiente silencioso é ambientado por árvores frondosas que ensombream alguns recantos. Caminhos tortuosos acompanham o declive do terreno. A maioria das campas baixas é coberta por vegetação rasteira, assinaladas por simples lápide de mármore vertical. Os monumentos funerários são poucos e mais recentes. A singela capela mortuária é a única edificação no terreno. (INEPAC)
