Summary[edit]

Description
English: Brine Wells near Preesall. On the '40s map this area is labelled "Salt Mines" which sounds more interesting than brine wells. The underground salt layer was a factor in the development of the chemical industry in nearby Thornton [across the River Wyre]. There is one well head and what appear to be two ventilation pipes in the photo, but there are many more spread through the fields here.
