the CathedralsSwan Sonnenschein d> Co., Ltd. CATHEDRAL FROM THE NORTH-EAST. SALISBURY CATHEDRAL. (&2i miles from London). Agrand ediiice, founded in 1220. Contains the bones ofmany notabilities, and is very interesting. This Cathe-dral, dedicated to St. Mary, is generally admitted to be,architectural^, the finest in this country, and its beautifulspire, tapering into the sky no less than 400 feet, is quiteunique, even in face of the fact that it is 22§ inches out ofthe perpendicular. It was built in the fourteenth century,and is in early English style. The Nave measures 230feet long by 52 feet wide ; the Transept, 205 feet by 50feet; the Choir, 150 feet by 52 feet; total length, 470feet. The pillars are of Purbeck marble, and above thepiers rises a beautiful triforium and the triple lancetwindows of the clerestory. The cloisters are the largestin England. Id ST. ALBANS ABBEY.
