| Description |
English: Built in 1892, this Colonial Revival-style building was originally a Romanesque Revival-style building, which was modified after a fire in 1908, and renovated again to bring it in line with the then-popular Colonial Revival style of the rest of campus in 1945. The building originally featured a gabled and hipped roof with a complex roofline, a semi-circular exterior wall at the east end of the front facade, and a tower with an open belfry. The building, following the 1945 renovations, is much simpler in its appearance and style, with a Colonial-Style enclosed belfry, a tower with an oxeye window, entrances with decorative limestone surrounds, a rough-hewn stone base, six-over-six windows with limestone lintels and sills, dormers with arched roofs, and a gable at the west end of the front facade with a fanlight attic window. The building was further renovated in 1999, and is presently one of the oldest remaining purpose-built academic buildings on the Centre College campus. |
