Summary[edit]

Description
English: Brechin 140822.

Class 26 D5314 double-heads Class 27 D5370 arriving at Brechin on the 1200 from Bridge of Dun to Brechin on 14 August 2022. The Brechin based Caledonian Railway runs trains on the former branch from the now closed Perth to Aberdeen line of the Caledonian Railway.

Built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company (BRCW) of Smethwick, D5314 was in the batch of 20 first allocated to Hornsey depot in London, although D5303 soon went on loan to Scotland but by mid 1960 a decision was taken to migrate the whole class to Scotland. A further 27 slightly modified locos went new to Scotland. Renumbered as 26014 in April 1974 it remained in service until October 1992. The power unit is a 6LDA28 of 1160hp.

D5370 is also by BRCW, featuring an uprated 1250hp 6LDA28-B engine and other modifications. It entered service in January 1962 at Thornaby depot on Teesside, working freight in the area until at least nominal transfer to Leicester in December 1965. As with the rest of the class it had reached Scotland by 1969, where it remained until withdrawal in July 1987 although, renumbered ADB968028 as a carriage heating unit, it lasted to 1989.
