| Description | Crews from the U.S. Navy repair ship USS Ajax (AR-6) repair the forward flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Bennington (CV-20) at Leyte. On 5 June 1945, the carrier was damaged by Typhoon "Connie" off Okinawa and retired to Leyte, Philippines, for repairs, arriving on 12 June. Her repairs completed, Bennington left Leyte on 1 July. The heavy cruiser USS Salt Lake City (CA-25) is visible in the background. |
