Summary[edit]
DescriptionBoundary Stone, Penny Pot Lane (2) - geograph.org.uk - 1085838.jpg |
English: Boundary Stone, Penny Pot Lane [2] Another view of the boundary stone which on its north face has directions to Skipton and to Knaresborough. This is puzzling as the stone stands well back from Penny Pot Lane and cannot be easily seen from the road. I had always assumed that the lane was an example of a 19th century enclosure road, but the age of the stone would suggest this is a much older route. The 18th century turnpike road is now the A59, running parallel to Penny Pot Lane about half a mile to the north. |
