Summary[edit]
DescriptionBottle Mold (51228008878).jpg |
National Bottle Museum Ballston Spa, New York The glass-blower puts the end of his rod, with a gob of molten glass on the end of it, inside the mold and then blows the glass to fill the inside of the mold. -- Mike (<a href="/photos/piedmont_fossil/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Piedmont Fossil</a>) The gob of molten glass is on the end of the blower's Iron. He will ensure that he has the correct weight of glass from the furnace, then by puffing intermittently down the iron, while continuously rotating the molten glass, and possibly re-heating it, will get a shape suitable for the mold, ensuring that the wall thickness of the glass is correct so that when he blows it in the mold, the finished article is of even thickness on the sides and neck, but the base should be slightly thicker to give strength against breakage ... The mold won't be opened until the blower feels that the glass is cooled enough that it will keep it's shape. -- Bob (<a href="/photos/54629463@N05/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Bobec 47</a>) |
