Summary

[edit]
Description Crews install precast pier caps, Maine’s first bridge with precast post-tensioned pier caps, as part of an FHWA, Highways for LIFE supported reconstruction of Boom Birch Bridge. Reconstruction after demolition/removal involved pile driving like with typical bents. The precast caps saved construction time by avoiding forming, curing, and stripping forms. The cap segments rectangular void that fit over the piles were filled with a high-performance, fast-curing concrete.
