Summary[edit]

Description
English: On Saturday the 6th October 2012 Anti-Fascist Action (AntiFA) marked 21 years of activism in Ireland.

One of the events was the unveiling of a mural dedicated to Bob Doyle (1916 – 2009) on the outside wall of The Cobblestone pub in North King Street, Smithfield in Dublin’s north inner city.

The mural was unveiled by Harry Owens of the Friends of the International Brigades, and local artist Thomas McCarthy.

Doyle was born in Smithfield. He lost an eye in running street battles between the IRA and the Blueshirts in the 1930s.

In 1937, Bob Doyle joined the Connolly Column of the International Brigades to fight for the Spanish Republic against Franco’s fascist coup.

Before his death he published a book documenting his experiences of the Spanish Civil War called “Brigadista: An Irishman’s Fight Against Fascism”.

In March 2013 the mural of Bob Doyle was painted over as part of the image-craft of the government’s PR stunt “The Gathering”. A plaque was unveiled by the Stoneybatter and Smithfield History project, in June 2019 to honour his memory.

Gaeilge: Ar Dé Satharn an 6 Deireadh Fómhair 2012, rinne Gníomh Frith-Fhaisisteach (AntiFA) ceiliúradh i gcór 21 bliain de ghníomhachtú in Éirinn.

Ceann de na himeachtaí ba ea múrmhaisiú a nochtadh do Bob Doyle (1916 - 2009) ar bhalla taobh amuigh teach tábhairne "The Cobblestone" i Sráid an Rí Thuaidh i Margadh na Feirme.

Nocht Harry Owens ón an grupa Chairde na mBriogáidí Idirnáisiúnta, agus an t-ealaíontóir áitiúil Thomas McCarthy an múrmhaisiú.

Rugadh Doyle i Smithfield. Chaill sé súil agus é ag troid leis na Léinte gorma sna 1930idí.

I 1937, chuaigh Bob Doyle isteach i gColún Ui Conghaile de na Briogáidí Idirnáisiúnta chun troid ar son Phoblacht na Spáinne i gcoinne Franco.

Roimh a bhás d’fhoilsigh sé leabhar darbh ainm “Brigadista: An Irishman’s Fight Against Fascism”.
