Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built in 1900-1902, this Classical Revival-style building was designed by Edward B. Franzheim to house the Wheeling Board of Trade and the Court Theatre. The building suffered a significant fire in 1909, which required the interior to be fully rebuilt, which was carried out under the direction of Charles W. Bates, and was completed in 1910. The building features a rusticated terra cotta base, one-over-one windows, terra cotta trim, decorative cartouches, arched transoms over the entrance bays, an arched entrance bay at the Chapline Street facade, which provides access to the Court Theatre, and features paired ionic columns and a cornice with dentils, banded terra cotta trim with greek key motif, and the remnants of corbels from the building’s former cornice, which has been mostly removed. The building is a contributing structure in the Wheeling Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Today, the building houses various office tenants.
