Summary
[edit]DescriptionBlue phase of the liquid crystalline polymer.jpg |
English: Platelet texture of Blue Phase in high-molar-mass side chain polymer was observed for the first time in our laboratory (Moscow State University) in 1996. Results of these investigations were published in Liq. Cryst. V. 24, No. 4, 1998, pp. 489-500. The unique difference between Blue Phases in low-molar-mass and polymeric systems is their great stability in the case of polymer. The sample presented in photo was obtained by overcooling to room temperature. Recently I have found this sample and was completely surprised because texture remains the same after more than 20 years of storage at room temperature!
Image width is about 300 micrometers. Image made with microscope Zeiss AxioVert1 with crossed polarizers by camera GRYPHAX JENOPTIK.
GRYPHAX JENOPTIK.English: Platelet texture of Blue Phase in high-molar-mass side chain polymer was observed for the first time in our laboratory (Moscow State University) in 1996.
