Summary[edit]

Description
English: Blue Flag Iris (Iris versicolor) This plant is also known as flag lily, purple flag, fleur-de-lis, flower-de-luce, liver lily, poison flag, snake lily, water flag, wild iris, dragon flower and dagger flower. The blue flag iris is a perennial herb and native to eastern and central North America, where it grows in the wild in wetlands. It is also cultivated in many other countries. The plant was a common Native American remedy for treating dropsy. It is also widely used in the treatment of skin diseases as well as for relieving digestive problems. Externally, the bruised fresh leaves may be used for burns and sores. A recent study has shown that it reduces food intake in rats and it was claimed that this demonstrates anti-obesic properties. http://www.purplesage.org.uk/profiles/blueflag.htm
