Blaps Gigas is a type of darkling beetle
Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: The churchyard beetle is the largest species of darkling beetle in the Maltese Islands, measuring up to nearly 40mm in size. It emerges at night to feed on plant matter but spends the day concealed in damp areas like under rocks, cave openings, and sometimes even in cellars and basements. Due to its inability to fly and its sturdy body, this beetle becomes an easy target for certain birds and reptiles. However, its tough elytra, which are fused together, provide a strong defense against other insects that might prey upon it. |
