Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Bishopstone Beach Halt railway station (site), Sussex
Opened as "Bishopstone" in 1864 by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway on the line from Lewes to Seaford, this station was downgraded to be "Bishopstone Halt" in 1922 and closed in 1938 (the current Bishopstone station opened in 1938 - see TV4699 : Bishopstone railway station, Sussex). This halt reopened briefly as "Bishopstone Beach Halt" in 1939 but by that time, the remaining community of Tide Mills had been removed by the military and the village was demolished. The halt closed completely in 1942. The line through it was singled in 1973. View west from a pedestrian level crossing towards Newhaven and Lewes. The remains of both platforms could still be made out nearly 70 years after the last passengers used them.
