English: Bird on tower, St John the Baptist church, Marldon. A companion to 715715. This figure is at the southwest corner of the tower. Thanks to Keith Edkins for suggesting that it is a pelican, the symbol of Christ's sacrifice - legend has it that the pelican fed its young with blood from its own breast. |
