At the present time, the laws of NewYork provide for one paid commissioner.The wonderful work performed today byCommissioner George D. Pratt, and themonumental results accomplished by oneof his predecessors, the Hon. James S.Whipple, have served to prove to theabsolute satisfaction of the NationalAssociation of Audubon Societies, and toall New York sportsmens organizationswith whose views we are acquainted, thata single-headed commission is the wisestpossible course for this state to pursue.With nine unpaid men to divide and shiftresponsibihty, we have grave fears thatconservation in New York State will sufferif this new provision is accepted. Whatseverybodys business is nobodys busi-ness, may prove to be a very truedeclaration.
