Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: The diagram shows an estimate of the distribution of biomass, expressed in absolute carbon content, across the different taxa. The height of the columns is not proportionate to the value they represent, but the downward trend is real. The value of the biomass of each individual taxon is indicated below the column. Gt = gigatons, C = carbon. The Plants column should be much higher. The Animals represent only 2 Gt carbon (C ; 0.36%) of the total (550 Gt C) and their mass is distributed in a separate diagram on the right.
Nederlands: Het diagram laat een schatting van de distributie van biomassa, uitgedrukt in het absolute koolstofgehalte, over de verschillende taxa zien. De hoogte van de kolommen staat niet in verhouding tot de waarde die deze vertegenwoordigen, maar de aflopende trend is reëel. De waarde van de biomassa van elk afzonderlijke taxon is onder de kolom aangegeven. Gt = gigaton, C = koolstof. De kolom Planten zou veel hoger moeten zijn. De Dieren vertegenwoordigen slechts 2 Gt koolstof (C ; 0,36%) van het totaal (550 Gt C) en worden rechts in een apart diagram onderverdeeld naar hun massa. |
