He is a farmer and tau-ner by occupation and a republican in politics.He has been twice married ; his first wife wasCordelia French, who died in December, 1863,aged thirtv-six years ; and after her death hemarried Mrs. Cordelia Herrick, widow of Cap-tain Herrick, who served and was killed iu thelate war. By his first marriage he had threesons: H. Alan.sou, a marble dealer and insur-ance agent of Algona, Iowa; Frank E. andSchuyler S., a prominent lawyer and one of thenine directors of the State Agricultural Associa-tion, of Iowa, being the youngest man by twen-ty years, who has ever been elected to thatposition.
