This Loblaws store has a large parking lot on the ground level. Patrons push their shopping carts onto escalator-like powered ramps, to proceed to the store level Their wheels are thin enough to be gripped in the grooves of the escalator like treads.
This is a sugar refinery. It used to be a Redpath's refinery. It used to house a sugar museum. A British firm bought it a few years ago, and closed the museum. Darn, I had always meant to pay a visit.
The music from this nightclub is sometimes so loud it keeps us up -- almost a kilometre away...
Below the Gardiner Expressway runs Lakeshore Boulevard. This is the intersection of Lakeshore and Jarvis Street.
Ships moor here to load and unload sugar.
Some of the vessels that moor here can load or unload their own cargo. Other require the refinery's equipment to load and unload.
Some of the vessels that moor here are longer than the mooring, and have to pull out, reverse themselves, so the other portion can be loaded or unloaded.
These cranes look like they are smaller versions of the cranes that can load or unload shipping containers. If so I believe they are the only ones in Toronto.
