Every excavationfor a building site in Jerusalem lays bare ancient re-mains and unearths almost inevitably antiquities.The scientific excavation and exploration which I havedescribed first called attention to this, and pretty soonefforts began to be made to collect what was foundand record what was seen in the course of buildingoperations.
