| Description |
English: Attributed arms of Bernard de Newmarket (c.1050-1125), the first lord of Brecon: Gules, five fusils conjoined in fess or. An Anglo-Norman family, alias Neufmarché, Newmarch. He lived before the age of heraldry so cannot have borne arms. However these arms attributed to him were nevertheless later quartered by various families claiming descent from him, including Jones of Llanarth Court in Monmouthshire, "representatives of the senior branch of the great house of Herbert" (Earls of Pembroke, etc), 4th quarter of 20. Source: Heraldic illustrations, by J. and J. B. Burke, Volume 1, plate XXV[1]. However, these arms were later born by a certain Adam de Newmarch, as recorded on the Glover's Roll (13th c.). Bernard left no male progeny. |
