Summary[edit]

Description

The cobblestone-covered street of Dreggsalmenningen, a street near the Bryggen UNESCO site in the Norwegian city of Bergen. The picture was taken at 14:13 on a sunny day in November, well before the fall of darkness. In late December, however, darkness would be on its way and nightfall would have arrived well before 17 o'clock.

Bergen has a lot of cobblestone streets downtown. They are a source of some debate in the city - traditionalists like the look of the stones, while modernists take issue with the discomfort in driving on them. For the latter reason, cobblestone paving is covered by asphalt in many heavily trafficked streets, but is still largely found, most predominantly in the old city.
