ery department of trade. The trendof general trade in this country follows thepig-iron cycle as persistently as does themagnetic needle point to the poles of theearth. It is an accepted saying that history re-peats itself. To show how and when it willbe systematically done, the reader is heregiven a long-distance view of the future upsand downs in prices for pig iron. The following is a diagram of the cyclesin this commodity extended fifty years intothe future. These known cycles in iron datefrom the year 1834—seventy years ago. At the top of this diagram is shown thehighest-priced years and good trade. At thebottom the lowest-priced years and poor trade. The years, 1911-1927 and 1945, are cyclicalyears for commercial panics to be followedby general revulsion in all trades. We are now entering into an up-cycle inpig iron extending to the year 1908, indicat-ing a prosperous period for the iron trade, and also indicating prosperity for the manyindustries of this country. pia I E^m. 251

In view of these trade conditions and pros-pects, I predict that the price of iron willadvance to a higher level during the year1905 than in 1904. RAILROAD STOCKS. I will briefly state the situation in the stockmarket, and then give some reasons whyprices for stocks and securities should andwill continue on the up-grade in 1905 and inthe furt
