English: Sundial at Beith Old Kirk, North Ayrshire, Scotland. The Latin motto Pulvis et umbra means "Dust and shadow". It comes from Pulvis et umbra sumus ("We are dust and shadow"), a statement by Horace, Book IV, ode vii, line 16
