Nederlands: Deze bedelnap heeft toebehoord aan een soefi, een islamitische mysticus. De nap is gemaakt van een seychellennoot, de vrucht van de palmboom Laodicea Seychellarum. De bedelnap heeft inscripties, maar deze zijn niet meer te lezen.
Rondtrekkende soefi's zijn herkenbaar aan hun uiterlijk. In Iran gingen zij aan het einde van de negentiende eeuw eenvoudig gekleed en droegen een hoog hoofddeksel. Tot hun attributen behoorden onder meer een blaasinstrument, een bedelnap (kashkul) en een staf. De meeste rondtrekkende soefi's leden een armoedig bestaan en moesten in hun onderhoud voorzien door geld en goederen te bedelen in ruil voor hun verhalen en kennis. Het mystieke leven werd beoefend in gemeenschappen en sinds de twaalfde en dertiende eeuw in zogenaamde soefi-ordes. Tot de tiende eeuw was de verhouding tussen leraar, shaykh, en leerling, muriid, nogal los. Vaak bezocht de leerling verschillende meesters om lessen over het mystieke pad te volgen. Langzaam aan werd de meester ook verantwoordelijk voor de persoonlijke opvoeding van de leerling. Na afsluiting van de opleiding kreeg de student een diploma en een uit lappen bestaand gewaad. Tot de uitrusting van de derwisj behoorden verder vaak een gebedskleed, een gebedsketting en een bedelnap. |
