Summary[edit]

Description
English: Beacon. This truncated tower is all that remains of the first lighthouse in Scotland, erected 1636. The light was a coal brazier burning atop the 18m tower. In 1791 the keeper, his wife and five of six children were found asphyxiated by CO from the fire. The surviving infant (Lucy Anderson) later married her rescuer, emigrated to USA, and the lady in the photo is her great great great granddaughter.
