| Description |
English: Beach west of Sconce Point, Fort Victoria Country Park Looking along the beach shortly before sunset, towards Sconce Point. The name "Sconce" derives from the word for a small protective fortification, defending a battery. The first artillery battery was built on the point here by Henry VIII in 1547, at the same time as Hurst Castle on the mainland side of the Solent. |
