Description
English: Spanning 1,430 km² of seascape and five islands off the coastline of Mozambique, the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park encompasses terrestrial and marine habitats of unique ecological value The Park was created in 1971 and is mandated to protect species of high conservation value, including sharks, dolphins, marine turtles, and corals. It is home to the largest and only viable population of dugongs (a marine mammal commonly known as "sea cows") in the Western Indian Ocean. This true colour image was captured by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 5 January 2021. Open data from the Sentinel satellites are used to monitor fragile ecosystems around the world and for bathymetric applications.
