Lo! all things can be borne. In a short time everybody went to work to drive the wolf fromthe door; all was gone but the wallet and staff. I went off toschool to supplement my broken education, interrupted by wars dreadalarm. One day in April, 1866, I received from General Stewarta letter that made me so happy—just as proud as a big sunflowerthat nods and bends to the breezes. I copy it here as a family herit-age. It is a beautiful tribute to the Confederate soldiers who foughtthe good fight and kept the faith. Lebanon, Tenn., April 13, 1866.
