| Description |
English: Basingwerk Abbey This was founded in 1131 and became a Cistercian abbey in 1147. It closed with the dissolution of the monasteries in 1536. For more info see http://www.castlewales.com/basing.html
Nowadays, it is prettily bordered by the garden flowers of the nearby cafe. There is also a visitor centre and a community farm. They are all part of the Greenfield Valley heritage trail. Apparently this area has more national monument heritage sites than anywhere else in Wales, see http://www.greenfieldvalley.com/page.asp?CategoryID=1&SubCategoryID=2 |
