Description
English: Basel Woman Turned to the Right, costume study. Pen and ink and brush, grey wash, 29 × 19.7 cm, Kunstmuseum Basel. The purpose of Holbein's pen-and-wash studies of women from this period is not known, though there is a strong emphasis on their clothes. The letters FHZ are here have been discerned at the end of the bonnet ribbon (Müller, p. 300).
