Description

Bas-relief avec décors végétaux, Ara Pacis Le bas-relief est situé sur le mur intérieur de l'autel. On retrouve deux bas-reliefs d'origine semblables sur la façade coté jardin de la Villa Médicis <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dalbera/34098372296/in/album-72157626980590186/">www.flickr.com/photos/dalbera/34098372296/in/album-721576...</a>

Inauguré en 2006, un nouveau bâtiment, proche du mausolée d'Auguste, protège l'autel de la Paix d'Auguste (Ara Pacis Augustae) datant de l'an 9 avant J.-C. Cet autel célèbre les victoires d'Auguste en Espagne, en Gaule et la pacification de l'Empire romain. A l'origine, il était à 200 m de sa position actuelle où il a été reconstitué à l'époque mussolinienne.

C'est la décoration florale en bas-relief ainsi que sa frise montrant une procession sacrificielle qui a fait la célébrité de l'ara pacis.

L'Ara Pacis est protégé aujourd'hui par un bâtiment de style contemporain conçu par l'architecte américain Richard Meyer. C'est une exception au centre de la Rome historique.
