Description U.S. President-elect Barack Obama greets Armed Forces Inaugural Committee (AFIC) members in Washington, D.C., Jan. 8, 2009. AFIC carries on a tradition, which dates back more than 200 years, of honoring the new commander in chief and recognizing civilian control of the military. AFIC is a joint-service organization responsible for providing military ceremonial support to the 56th Presidential Inauguration, which will take place on Jan. 20, 2009
