| Description | Banana Plant (Musa spp) is the largest herbaceous flowering plant. Herbaceous plants have no woddy stem. There are 63 species of banana, some growing to over 7m in height. The most common are the sweet banana but other species are known as plantain, which are starchy and need to be cooked to be eatable. Banana plants are naturally found throughout tropical and subtropical Asia to the western Pacific and Tanzania. Each stem normally produces a single flower spike with separate male and female flowers. Flowers develop into fruit bunches which grow in layers down a drooping stem, some weiging up to 50kg. |
