Summary[edit]

Description

English: The Ball de Les Rentadores' is an element included in the inventory of the intangible cultural heritage of the Natural Park of Cadí-Moixeró, an inventory carried out by the Institute of Intangible Cultural Heritage (IPACIM).

The dance takes place in the square of the Ajuntament de Riu de Cerdanya. The dance has two parts and an epilogue. In the first part, five pairs of girls dance and sing animatedly, swinging wooden shovels called masons, which they tap against a flat wicker basket, representing that they are washing clothes. They wear white bonnets and blouses, black skirts and striped espadrilles and move to the sound of melodies composed especially for the dance and performed live by a group of musicians.

It is a dance that was recovered around the years 1993-1994 by the hands of several people. It is not known exactly when it stopped dancing, but the older people kept in their memory the existence of this dance in the village.
