Description

Wambli Askate the bald eagle at the Ralph Perkins II Wildlife Center at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.

Wambli Askate (Ahsh-kah-tay) is a Lakota phrase ("wambli" = eagle; "askate" = playful). Askate was an eaglet in 2006 when she fell from her nest and injured her right wing. She was treated and lived at a wildife refuge in Washington state before coming to Cleveland in 2018. Her nickname is "Spaghetti" because she likes to slurp up her food.

Built at a cost of $14 million, the exhibit replaced a much smaller, courtyard-based facility. All the animals in the exhibit are native to Northeast Ohio, and none can be released back into the wild due to injury or abandonment.
