| Description |
English: The aft end of the boom. At the bottom right you can just see the blocks for the main sheets. At the back of the boom are the reefing lines (first reef green, second reef red, third reef white). The first and second reefs are controlled from the cockpit... the third is controlled from the foot of the mast. The white line with blue flecking is the outhaul, which controls the amount of tension on the foot of the mainsail. On the left you can see the anchor points for the reefs. Finally, on the right leading upward is the topping lift, which is used to support the weight of the boom when the mainsail is down. When the sail goes up it gets eased a bit to avoid distorting the shape of the sail. |
