Description |
The photograph is thought to show the first Baker Electric car, produced in 1898, the year the company was established in Cleveland by Walter C. Baker (1868-1955). Office boy Willie McKevitt is seated in the vehicle. The photo was probably taken on Jessie Street (now East 69th Street). In 1905 annual production was 400 automobiles. Supplemental information from a researcher notes that the Baker first production cars were made in 1900. This might be an earlier prototype said to be made in 1898. |
