Summary[edit]

Description
English: Badjaos are an ethnic group who have adapted to life in the sea. They are sometimes referred to as 'sea gypsies'. Poverty-stricken families living in coastal regions (oftentimes entirely in boats) often beg for spare change from ferry passengers in the Philippines. Passengers from ferry decks toss down coins to Badjaos in outrigger canoes who will then dive after the sinking money. Children as young as ten can be seen doing this alongside their parents. Long exposure to sun and seawater often give Badjaos characteristic light brown to blond hair.
