Description One of South Korea's national treasures and one of the earliest extant sculptures from the country. Yŏn'ga Buddha, Goguryeo, 539. Gilt bronze, h. 16.3 cm. National Museum of Korea, National Treasure no. 119. "In the seventh year of Yŏn'ga, kimi (539), the respectful disciple Monk Sungyon, abbot of the Eastern Temple in Nangnang of Koguryo, together with forty other masters and pupils made [images of] the Thousand Buddhas of the Bhadrakalpa and disseminated them to the world.
