Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Preserved bus 458 (reg. WJY 758), a 1962 Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 double-decker with Metro-Cammell bodywork, pictured in Babbcombe being prepared for a trip to Goodrington. It was in the Torquay area for the Devon General Society's Sea Dogs event.

It's pictured here wearing temporary Plymouth City Transport fleetname and 458 fleetnumber over its former owners livery, having recently been purchased by the Plymouth City Transport Preservation Group from the Keighley Bus Museum Trust.

It was new to Plymouth City Transport, numbered 158 and entering service from Milehouse depot. Along with sister vehicles 159 (WJY 759) and 160 (WJY 760), in April 1975 it was converted to an open top bus for summer season public transport services, later being named Plymouth Adventurer and receiving a yellow & white livery. In 1978 it was renumbered 458 to free up fleet numbers for new Atlanteans being delivered to Plymouth. It lasted in open top service into the Plymouth CityBus era, receiving an updated yellow & white livery, but in its latter years wearing a special allover advertising livery promoting local attractions. 458 was eventually withdrawn in July 1991 after its normal work had been taken over by Guide Friday's Plymouth Tour and Western National's route 17.

After Plymouth it saw further use as a seasonal service / tour bus with other owners in Scarborough, Whitby and York, before being impounded by Ebor Trucks of Acaster Malbis for non-payment of repair bills. In 2003 it was rescued by the Keighley Bus Museum Trust who, after a 12 month restoration, put it to work in a fictional Keighley identity. For full details of that period of operation, see this image of it in that era.

At the end of the 2009 season 458 was sold to the Plymouth City Transport Preservation Group, who intend to to restore it to its Plymouth Adventurer identity in time for its 50th anniversary.
