Summary[edit]

Description
English: Switch frame from Post Office (London) Railway (Mail Rail) platform at Mount Pleasant.

The switch frame was installed at Mount Pleasant for the opening of Mail Rail [then the Post Office (London) Railway] in 1927. It controlled all train movements through the sections of track either side of the Mount and into the car depot. Each station would once have had its own switch frame and each frame would control a section of track from the limit of the other. The Mount frame was the oldest and largest on the network. The frames would by the operation of the levers check sections of track were clear of trains, move the points and thus direct the trains. It was connected to a button known as the 'cherry' on the platform, which would move the train away from stations. Each switch frame had a king lever which when pulled out would lock the other levers in making it impossible to move trains. The frame was replaced by computerized systems in the 1990s but remained in situ. It was removed for preservation as part of a clear out at Mail Rail.
