The missal contains all the texts and music needed by a priest and choir to celebrate Mass. It was probably made for use at one of the altars at the royal abbey of Saint-Denis. Some of the miniatures tell the story of the abbey\\\'s foundation. The manuscript with its text and ornament was a product of the commercial Paris book industry, but the illuminator may have been commissioned separately. Entries in the calendar allow the missal to be dated to 1350.
