Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Black Hole monument is located in the campus of St. John's Church in B.B.D.Bag, Kolkata. It is said that inside this monument Nawab Shiraz-Ud-Daula of Murshidabad captivated 146 British soldiers when he invaded Kolkata in the year 1756. Though modern historians believe that the number is highly exaggerated to defame the said Nawab but it may be a fact that many British soldiers collapsed due to suffocation inside the structure. The names of the British soldiers who died in that incident is scribed on the walls of the monument.
