A map showing the Maluku islands.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: A map showing the Maluku islands. The plate from which this map was printed first appeared in Willem Blaeu's Appendix of 1630 and was reproduced in Blaeu's atlases up to 1670. Following the fire of 1672 that destroyed most of the stock and the death of Joan Blaeu (Willem Blaeu's son) a year later, the remaining stock was sold in five auctions between 1674-77, at which time the plate was probably acquired by De Wit. Upon De Wit's death in 1706, many of his plates were bought by Petrius Motier. His son subsequently published the map with the imprint of Covens and Mortier between 1730 and 1778.
